Tuition & levels
I specialise in English Language and English Literature tuition for GCSE, iGCSE, A-Level and International Baccalaureate (IB) students, covering the content and requirements of all the main examination boards.
I'm Kathy. I hold a BA, MA and PGCE from the University of Cambridge, and had a successful career as a classroom teacher before setting up as a private tutor in 2014. I've also marked exam papers for major examination boards, so I know exactly what's needed for top grades.
Because all lessons are delivered online, I work with students both in the UK and internationally, including China, Dubai and Spain.
Lessons & format
All tuition is delivered online via Zoom, using tools such as Bitpaper that let students annotate texts, highlight key information and type notes in real time. Each lesson is saved and shared as a PDF, and a working camera and microphone are needed to take part fully.
Both. I offer:
- One-to-one tutoring — weekly sessions tailored exactly to the student's needs.
- Paired or small group tutoring — up to four students of similar ability, often working together on specific topics.
- Live streaming sessions — timetabled sessions for slightly larger groups who may not know one another.
Yes. Every new student is offered a free 20-minute Zoom meeting, which parents are welcome to join. It lets me assess the student's level, discuss goals, and answer any questions before regular lessons begin.
I follow up by email with the annotated lesson notes and tailored practice tasks, so students have a clear record to revisit and can keep progressing between sessions. Parents also receive feedback by email or a short chat at the end of the lesson.
Pricing & payment
One-to-one tutoring starts from £60.00 per one-hour lesson. This covers not only the lesson itself but also the time spent on planning, preparation, assessing work and giving feedback. Longer sessions can be arranged, billed at the same hourly rate.
- Planning and preparation
- Live lesson delivery
- Practice tasks based on each lesson
- Feedback to parents, by email or a short chat at the end of the lesson
Extra support between lessons, such as feedback on school work, may incur an additional charge, assessed case by case.
Lessons are charged per hour, and regular lesson times are confirmed after the initial meeting. Invoices are issued monthly on the 1st, covering lessons from the previous month (for example, an invoice issued on 1st October covers September's lessons). If a payment is outstanding, future lessons may be paused until it's settled.
Cancellations & rescheduling
At least 48 hours' notice is required to cancel or reschedule a lesson — otherwise, the full lesson fee is charged.
- If you cancel with proper notice, I can provide a short video covering the missed content.
- For "no shows" without notice, the lesson is charged in full and a video follow-up isn't guaranteed.
- In case of illness, I'll try to offer an alternative slot, though availability can't be guaranteed.
If I ever need to cancel, I'll let you know as soon as possible and offer alternative times.
